Asynchronous responses of aquatic ecosystems to hydroclimatic forcing on the Tibetan Plateau

چکیده
Abstract High-altitude ecosystems react sensitively to hydroclimatic triggers. Here we evaluated the ecological and hydrological changes in a glacier-influenced lake (Hala Hu, China) since last glacial. Rapid fluctuations of aquatic biomarker concentrations, ratios, hydrogen isotope values, from 15 14,000 8 5000 years before present, provided evidence for regime shifts hydrology. In contrast, most negative values terrestrial biomarkers were observed between 9 7,000 present. This shows that vapour sources increased precipitation amounts not relevant drivers behind ecosystem studied lake. Instead, receding glaciers meltwater discharge, driven by higher temperatures, caused pronounced responses. The within phytoplankton communities Late Glacial mid Holocene illustrate vulnerability comparable climatic changes. is assess future responses global warming.

Bacterial responses to environmental change on the Tibetan Plateau over the past half century.
Climate change and anthropogenic factors can alter biodiversity and can lead to changes in community structure and function. Despite the potential impacts, no long-term records of climatic influences on microbial communities exist. The Tibetan Plateau is a highly sensitive region that is currently undergoing significant alteration resulting from both climate change and increased human activity....
متن کاملAsian summer monsoon anomalies induced by aerosol direct forcing: the role of the Tibetan Plateau
In this paper we present results of a numerical study using the NASA finite-volume GCM to elucidate a plausible mechanism for aerosol impact on the Asian summer monsoon involving interaction with physical processes over the Tibetan Plateau (TP). During the premonsoon season of March–April, dusts from the deserts of western China, Afghanistan/Pakistan, and the Middle East are transported into an...
متن کاملEffects on aquatic ecosystems
Regarding the effects of UV-B radiation on aquatic ecosystems, recent scientific and public interest has focused on marine primary producers and on the aquatic web, which has resulted in a multitude of studies indicating mostly detrimental effects of UV-B radiation on aquatic organisms. The interest has expanded to include ecologically significant groups and major biomass producers using mesoco...
متن کاملConstraints on the early uplift history of the Tibetan Plateau.
The surface uplift history of the Tibetan Plateau and Himalaya is among the most interesting topics in geosciences because of its effect on regional and global climate during Cenozoic time, its influence on monsoon intensity, and its reflection of the dynamics of continental plateaus. Models of plateau growth vary in time, from pre-India-Asia collision (e.g., approximately 100 Ma ago) to gradua...
متن کاملPeopling of the northern Tibetan Plateau
Early archaeological investigations on the Tibetan Plateau concluded that this harsh, high-elevation environment was successfully colonized around 30,000 years ago. Genetic studies have tended to support this view on the assumption that the uniquely evolved physiological capacities seen among modern Tibetan populations required long-term exposure to high-elevation selective pressures. Archaeolo...
